True agape love is FREEDOM. Not the physical or political kind guaranteed to All Americans by the Constitution, but a personal, spiritual, emotion freedom that enables us to be all God wants us to be.
Jesus showed us what true agape love really is. He knew that God loved Him—and that knowledge freed Him to be Himself. He loved those around Him, and He allowed them to be themselves, too. They were free to betray him, deny him, run away when he was arrested. His love also gave them the freedom to turn around, to repent, confess their shortcomings, and be forgiven.
When Jesus said, “If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed,” he was talking about the freedom that only true agape love can bring. God’s love flowing through Jesus would set them free from their guilt, anxiety, and fear of breaking the Law. Jesus told them they would be free to choose obedience based on love rather than on a fear of punishment.

If God is love, and Jesus and the Father are one, then Jesus is the love of God in human form. If Jesus is love and has the power to set up free from sin and guilt and anxiety and all the other spiritual and emotional prisons of man, then it is LOVE which sets us free! Paul understood this when he told the Corinthians, “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” To the Galatians, he pinpointed love as one of the fruits of the Spirit. Therefore, where God’s spirit is, love is. And where love is, THERE IS FREEDOM.
